SCIMED SIGNS MANUFACTURING AGREEMENT WITH MEDICORP INC.
Edmonton, AB, September 24, 2004 - SciMed Laboratories Inc. today announced that the Company has signed a manufacturing agreement with Medicorp Inc. for its lead products, VitaKit™ A and VitaKit™ D. Medicorp (Montreal, Quebec) is Canada's largest, independent ISO 9001-certified manufacturer and distributor of immunodiagnostic and microbiology products.
SciMed’s VitaKit™ A and VitaKit™ D, for vitamin A and vitamin D quantification respectively, will be marketed to the entire food & beverage industry with an initial focus on the fluid milk dairy industry. Currently, there are no kits available for vitamin A or vitamin D analysis in the food & beverage industry. Instead, a costly and time-consuming (~2 weeks) method is used that is performed using expensive equipment and highly skilled personnel and is usually outsourced to special laboratories. VitaKit™ A and VitaKit™ D will allow this analysis to be done on-site in less than 2 hours.
A distributor is being sought for the distribution of these kits in North America as well as other regions of the world. Following entry into the food & beverage industry and approval from the regulatory agencies, the kits will be sold in the clinical industry as well.
SciMed recently (announced July 30, 2004) secured a second round of financing from AVAC Ltd. of Calgary. “This was what we needed to move forward with our manufacturer,” said SciMed’s founder & CEO, Dr. Rajan Gupta. “Now that we have both financing from AVAC as well as our manufacturer secured, we are able to move these kits to commercialization.”
